This accessible article presents some arguments against animal testing. It also links, throughout, to articles on related topics.
The author argues that ‘vivisection is antithetical to animal rights because animals have a right to be free from experimentation, imprisonment, and killing.’ She details the relationship between animal experimentation and human progress, and suggests that ‘[j]ust as unethical experimentation on a group of humans cannot be justified by a benefit to humanity at large, the same holds true for animal experimentation.’
While the ideas in this article are easy to grasp, the article itself is very one-sided. Teachers might consider asking students to think of ways in which somebody might argue against the author’s claims.
