Fables from Aesop

Title: Fables from Aesop

Editor: Lynch, Tom

Publisher: Puffin Books

Date: 2002

ISBN: 0-14-230194-9

This is an illustrated children’s book based on Aesop’s fables which are of ancient Greek origin. Each story is one page long. Underneath the story in bold lettering is the moral of the story. While the book’s target audience of young kids would probably just enjoy the stories, older students could study the fables at a deeper level. One way to use this text in a philosophy class could be to ask the students whether they think the connection made between the fable and its moral is accurate. Could the story be interpreted so that it has an alternative moral? Is the moral true? Etc.
